LUKE UP TO INTERNATIONAL TASK

Lee&LukePioneer 79 swimmer Luke Tasker has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Europa Cup Modern Pentathlon in the Czech republic.

Luke, 15, from Waddington, gained selection for the under 16 team after impressing at cup events held throughout the season up and down the country.

He will be the youngest male selected and still has one more year remaining in this age group.  He made his debut in the squad last year aged just 14.

He will be part of a four-strong GB team and the events are: pistol shooting, 200m freestyle swim and a 2km run.  A total team score will determine the medals and the team is hoping to grab a top-three spot after finishing in the top eight last year.

Luke trains with head coach Lee Stringfellow at Blackburn and Hyndburn-based Pioneer 79' Swimming Club which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Lee said: “Luke has been hammering the miles over recent months in preparation to compete for his country.

“He is a formidable competitor who trains very, very hard.  He has achieved personal bests in all strokes lately, but has really begun to concentrate on the 200 free event.  He is hoping to go 2.05.00 long course, which would rank him amongst the best swimmers in the country for his age, let alone modern pentathletes.  The club wishes him the very best and hopes he can bring back an international medal".

Luke also trains with Blackburn Harriers and Ribble Valley Pentathlon Team.
