Pioneer 79 have been crowned Top Club after landing more than 70 medals and five all-time records at a major age group swimming event.
The club, which is based in Hyndburn and Blackburn, took the Top Club title at the Bolton and Manchester Age Group Championships which were held at the Commonwealth Pool in Manchester.
Head coach Lee Stringfellow said: “This is another fabulous result for the club and its swimmers.
“We had more than 60 swimmers taking part and every one of them achieved at least one personal best time.
“More importantly, we have beaten every other club in the Bolton and Manchester region, proving once again we are the ones to beat”.
In landing the Top Club honour, Pioneer 79 also took the Boys’ Overall Championship and were third in the girls’ event.
Lee Stringfellow added: “We are showing true strength in depth – from our youngest to our oldest competitors and it looks like our 30th anniversary year is set to be our best ever.”
In the Bolton and Manchester event, Pioneer 79 swimmers took 23 gold, 27 silver and 29 bronze medals, as well as smashing five records and collecting 37 regional qualifying times, and all Pioneer 79’s medallists will now represent Bolton and Manchester in the Inter Association competition held in Blackpool in May.
The early season success follows on from a triumphant 2008 when the club achieved a seemingly impossible ambition by reaching the North West final of the National Swimming League – the top table of club swimming events
